In 1972 the
then community of Olympi asked the Hellenic Speleological
Society to explore six precipices of her region, thing that became
in 1985. The
research showed that the five of them lead to very narrow
slots a downshift of 25-35 meters depth. But "Katafidi"
in the region "Sykia" led after 13 meters depth to
a marvelous cave with reach decoration!
In 1990 began the first studies on the cave's exploitation,
while in 1999 began the work. |

First
from the natural entry, with the help of a basket-lift
gone down tools, materials and the workers, set up
scaffoldings and put small anchors that retain the
rocks in two sensitive regions of the cave.
Then was manufactured the trail that was constituted
mainly by stainless corridors and scales, while a
small department includes a stone path.
Then it was made an artificial entry for the easy
access of public, was built spaces of reception and
was placed the artificial lighting of the cave.
The work completed in 2002 and from 2003 is open for
the public. |
