| In
this region it present important growth the
allochthonous unit of rocks of the island. It is
southernly presented by the homonym settlement and up
to the coast. It is consisted by Jurassic Era
limestones (195-140 million years before), which are
found above the clastic Palaeozoic Era shaping of base
of this unit.
This
clastic shaping surrounds from north, westwards and
easternly the mass of the above limestones, which only
from south touches the sea.

| These
are the most interesting limestones because inside
them has been created the cave of Sykia. Its about not
lying to thick layer grey color limestones of Niritic
Era. Their layer is difficult to be defined and only
in certain places are clear. They have an important
karstic that is in great development, mainly along
break lines with the creation of caves, precipices.
The outward karstic and dissolution of limestones have
led to red ground that covers the concave surface of
the limestones. |
